Serious question (for a change):
You're driving. You're at a red light and you see a car approaching you from behind. It's clear that your car is about to be hit.
They say you're supposed to keep your foot on the brake to prevent hitting the car in front of you, which could start a chain reaction of cars hitting more cars. But from a purely selfish standpoint, wouldn't the smart thing be to take your foot off the brake so as to prevent whiplash to yourself? Setting aside the morality of the question, what are the physics?
