At my parents’, helping them clean out their basement. What a dope time to find this gem. My Mom’s a huge fan. OK, so that’s not her poster, but this is her picture.
As I once told The REAL Russell Peters, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot” was my favorite rap album when it dropped. Pre-Kanye West, it was rare in hip-hop to listen to albums all the way through. “Ruff Ryder’s Anthem” was actually far from my favorite track because it was so loaded with ill tracks. I must’ve listened to the whole thing 50+ times in a year.
I interned on Capitol Hill in 1999, and when I told my roommate, a college football player (not at Calvin College, though), I thought DMX was so tight, he immediately replied, “Mind your business, lady.” I about died laughing. THAT was the line he picked up?
Btw, the basement was such a mess, we could’ve renamed it, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot.”
